Part 1: What Art Has Taught Me
I love art for many reasons. I love the class, I love the history, and I love the way it’s taught. I skipped a year of art class for academic reasons, and I regret it. I really missed making projects and learning new things like techniques, styles, and history. I learned so much about culture background, ideas about science and the world, as well as the dominant religion of the time period.
Although, one thing I really do enjoy about art class is the way it is taught in the classroom. When we study art history or conduct critiques on our latest projects, the atmosphere is just so much more relaxed and easier to understand then tradition teaching. I’ve learned how to give positive feedback, for the benefit of others and how look la bit deeper that what is just on the canvas. What I have also have come to realize; for me personally, is that I can easily talk to almost any other student in my art class about work or just normal conversation. Unlike my other classes, where there is minimum collaboration and always remains silent. I believe that has thought me to not be as afraid to ask for help and to help become better at giving help.
I also believe I have become worldly in art class, due to art history. Not only do I learn the cultures from the times periods then, but they relate to around the world. I have many conflicts with school and why we must learn useless, overly complicated information; my father told me it is to become worldly. But to be frank, I believe art history does a better job of connecting other cultures, ideas, and religions than any other class. Learning the depth and meaning behind why a work of art was made can open anyone’s mind to the ideas and life-style of the time period it was made.
Art is an amazing thing to learn about and create artwork based on what you’ve learned and the passion you put into it. I only wish that my other classes would be as interesting and more relaxed as my art class is. Throughout the years art class has been my outlet and I learn countless things from it.

Part 2: Artist Research Reflection
Alphonse Mucha

Mucha is one of my favorite artists of all time. He has beautiful pieces and works from the 1860 – 1939. However, he wasn’t as popular as of now, as he was in the past; he was thought to be old fashioned. But when his son re-showed his work after his death, he became extremely popular and well-known for his amazing work during the art period of Art Nouveau. He paints gorgeous women with flowing hair, rich colors, and overly decorative style. He uses so much tight and liner detail. All of his works have an outline of black, yet is shaded to give off a 3D effect, but still remaining in the liner perspective. Like in his collection of posters called “The Arts” that consist of Painting, Music, Dance, and Poetry in 1898. All have beautifully drawn women that look elegant and majestic; clearing showing the subject of the piece. Everything he paints has a beautiful and elegant feel to them, which is why I adore his work.

Inka Essenhigh
http://www.inka-essenhigh.com/
Ink Essenhigh is still a living artist, so there is little to no information about her; however she is still a well-known artist. She is still currently creating art and is changing her style throughout the years. When she first started drawing her artwork was more like doodles than actual pieces of finished work. Soon she became more experience and her color combinations became brighter and more opaque. Now, her artwork looks more 3D and has a full range of value and shading of colors. So, from her painting of “Arrows of Fear” in 2002 which is flat and almost cartoon-like, to her latest work “City Street” in 2013, which is completely 3D and has bright and dull colors combined. I think that Essenhigh’s work is interesting and has a nice form to it, that I wish I could paint.

Hayao Miyazki
http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/miyazaki/
Hayao Miyazaki is my childhood hero. He is an amazing animator and director in Japanese films. Miyazaki became popular after the animated film of Spirited Away hit the theaters in America in 2002, even though he was already popular in Japan. Not only are his stories wonderful, but the art in the movies – like the background – is like a stunning painting in every frame. Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle are my two favorite movies from him. They are gorgeous and have perfectly painted look. His art and stories will always be my favorite.

MASH-UP THOUGHTS
I am always excited and ready to tackle a new art project; however when I heard that we would be limited to a certain degree, the countless I ideas and hopes I had started to drain. When we received our lottery numbers I was pleased with half lf my numbers, others not as much. I love the lace, but not plastic bag; I wasn’t too thrilled about my subjects either until I traded with my friend and received wickedness and birth. I also traded with another person to remove plastic bag and obtain felt. At first I had almost no ideas, mainly just a pregnant woman with some monstrous baby in her womb. I wasn’t happy with my idea so decided to use my subjects indirectly. Instead of painting birth in the actual painting, I have decided to use it as more of a moral. My first idea that came from this was my reaction to see the images I searched for birth; shocked and needing to turn away. Still not happy; I decided to doddle and do some re, coming up with a wonderful idea that I am excited about. This was a definably a problem in the beginning and I started to doubt my ideas, but I think this will turn out into a great project.
